The 3M 7000031696 is a soft, two-part polybutadiene resin encapsulant formulated for reenterable splice protection in electrical applications. This product mixes and cures into a flexible, removable mass that encapsulates electrical splices, connectors, and terminations — allowing re-entry without destructive cutting or grinding. Electricians and utility technicians use it where future access to the splice is required, such as direct-burial cable joints, underground junction boxes, and conduit splice points. The 12.3-ounce package is sized for single-use or small-batch field applications.
This resin is suited for residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical work where a soft, reenterable encapsulant is required. Typical installations include low-voltage and line-voltage splice kits in underground or moisture-exposed environments. It handles well at ambient temperatures and is appropriate for use wherever a permanent rigid encapsulant would prevent future inspection or rework of the splice.
Designed as an OEM-style reenterable encapsulant for use in electrical splice protection applications where a soft, removable resin is specified.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician following applicable NEC requirements for the splice environment. De-energize and lock out the circuit before preparing the splice and applying resin. Mix the two-part components thoroughly per the manufacturer's mixing ratio before pouring. Allow full cure time before restoring power or backfilling the installation.
