The 3M 7000028231 is a coated abrasive disc roll designed for use with a Stikita backup pad, offering a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing that allows fast disc changes without the need to peel individual liners. Each disc measures 5 inches in diameter and carries a P400 grit rating, making it well-suited for fine finishing and surface preparation tasks. The abrasive mineral is aluminum oxide, known for consistent cut and durability across a wide range of materials. A C-weight paper backing provides added rigidity and wear resistance compared to lighter paper grades. A load-resistant coating helps keep the disc surface clear of debris, extending the working life of each disc.
This disc roll is used in woodworking, metalworking, and general surface preparation applications where fine finishing is required. The roll format provides quick access to fresh discs and eliminates the disc liner removal step common with individually packaged discs. Typical installers and users include woodworkers, fabricators, and finishing contractors working on flat or contoured surfaces where a random orbital or right-angle sander with a compatible Stikita backup pad is used. The P400 grit level is appropriate for final sanding passes, sealer scuff sanding, and between-coat finishing on painted or stained surfaces.
Designed for use with 3M Stikita backup pads sold separately. Backup pad must accept 5-inch adhesive-backed discs. Confirm pad compatibility before ordering.
Ensure the backup pad surface is clean and free of debris before applying each disc. Align the disc squarely to the pad and apply firm, even pressure to seat the adhesive fully before operating the tool. Operate the sander at the speed recommended by the tool manufacturer for the disc diameter and application. Inspect each disc for tears or loading before reuse and replace when cut rate noticeably decreases.
