The 3M 7000006378 is a fire barrier watertight sealant formulated to seal penetrations and joints in fire-rated assemblies. Sold in a 4.5-gallon pail, this non-sag sealant is applied to openings where pipes, conduit, cables, or ductwork pass through fire-rated walls, floors, and ceilings. It resists water infiltration while maintaining the fire-resistance rating of the assembly. At 50 pounds per pail, it is suited for commercial and industrial projects where large-volume application is required. Licensed contractors and inspectors working under building code requirements for compartmentalization rely on this product to restore rated assemblies after penetrations are made.
This sealant is used in commercial construction, industrial facilities, and multi-family residential buildings wherever through-penetrations must comply with fire-rated assembly requirements. It is appropriate for both new construction and retrofit work. Typical applications include mechanical, electrical, and plumbing penetrations through rated wall and floor assemblies. The non-sag formulation holds in vertical and horizontal joint orientations without slumping during cure.
Designed as a firestop sealant for use in through-penetration and joint applications within UL-classified or tested fire-rated assemblies. Verify specific assembly listings and approval documentation before use on any rated assembly.
Installation must be performed by qualified firestop contractors or licensed tradespeople familiar with applicable building and fire codes, including IBC and NFPA 101 requirements. The rated assembly must be properly prepared and the penetration opening sized per the tested system design before sealant is applied. Do not apply over incompatible backer materials or in conditions outside the product temperature range. Inspect installed firestop systems per the authority having jurisdiction before concealing any work.
