The 3M 7000006197 is a soft, two-part polybutadiene resin encapsulant formulated for reenterable splice protection in electrical applications. Sold as a 21.2 oz unit, it mixes to form a flexible, low-durometer fill that fully encapsulates splices, connectors, and terminations while remaining removable for future access or rework. Licensed electricians and utility splice technicians use this product when permanent encapsulation is not acceptable and the splice must remain serviceable. The resin is designed to provide reliable insulation and moisture protection without locking components in place permanently.
This resin is suited for residential, commercial, and utility electrical installations where reenterable protection is required. Typical applications include underground splice closures, junction box fill, low-voltage and line-voltage cable splices, and any encapsulation scenario where the assembly may need to be reopened without destructive removal. Its two-part formulation allows controlled mixing and pour-in-place application directly into splice kits, molds, or enclosures.
Designed as an OEM-style encapsulant for use in reenterable electrical splice protection kits and enclosures across residential, commercial, and utility electrical applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed electricians or utility splice technicians. De-energize and lock out the circuit before opening any splice enclosure or applying encapsulant. Follow NEC guidelines for underground and wet-location splicing when applicable. Mix both components thoroughly per manufacturer instructions before pouring; incomplete mixing will result in an inconsistent cure and reduced insulation performance.
