The 3M 7000000282 is a precision lapping film designed for achieving controlled, uniform surface finishes on a variety of substrates. Part of the 3M 261X series, it uses precisely graded 3.0 micron aluminum oxide abrasive particles coated onto a dimensionally stable 3 mil polyester film backing. The result is consistent cut rate and finish quality across the full sheet surface. At 8.5 inches x 11 inches, it fits standard lapping fixtures and manual finishing setups. Technicians and machinists rely on this film where tight surface finish tolerances are required and where conventional sandpaper introduces too much variability.
This lapping film is suited for fine finishing and polishing applications in fiber optic connector end-face preparation, precision optical component finishing, and close-tolerance metal and ceramic surface conditioning. It is applicable in both production environments and bench service work where repeatable finish results are critical. The 3.0 micron grade positions it as an intermediate finishing step in multi-stage lapping sequences, following coarser grades and preceding finer grades such as 0.30 micron.
Designed for use as a precision lapping sheet in applications requiring fine abrasive finishing, including fiber optic connector polishing, optical surface preparation, and precision metal or ceramic component conditioning.
Lapping film is typically used by precision technicians, optical fiber splicers, and machinists performing bench finishing work. Secure the film flat against a lapping plate or backing surface to prevent wrinkles that can cause uneven material removal. Follow a staged lapping sequence, moving from coarser to finer micron grades, and clean the workpiece between stages to avoid cross-contamination of abrasive particles. Always follow applicable workplace safety guidelines when handling abrasive materials.
