The 3M 1700c-violet is a general-purpose vinyl electrical tape designed for insulation, color-coding, and bundling applications in residential and commercial electrical work. The tape features a rubber adhesive bonded to a PVC backing, providing a dielectric strength of 1000 volts per mil and a voltage rating of 600 volts. At 7 mil thickness, it delivers reliable insulation performance across a broad operating temperature range of 32 degrees F to 176 degrees F. Licensed electricians and maintenance technicians reach for this tape when they need a dependable, code-appropriate insulating wrap or color-coded phase identification solution.
This tape is suited for general electrical insulation tasks including wire splicing, harnessing, and color-coding conductors in low-voltage residential panels, commercial branch circuits, and industrial control wiring. The violet color aids in quick visual identification of conductors or circuit phases on the job. Each roll measures 66 ft in length and 3/4 in width, wound on a 1-1/2 in diameter core for standard tape-gun compatibility.
Designed as a general-purpose electrical insulating tape suitable for use on copper and aluminum conductors in low-voltage electrical insulation and color-coding applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before applying or removing tape on any conductor or splice. Stretch the tape slightly during application to ensure a tight, void-free wrap. Avoid applying below 32 degrees F, as adhesion and conformability will be reduced at lower temperatures.
