The 3M 1599B-SILVER_48X109.7 is a silver flexible duct closure tape designed for HVAC sealing applications in both residential and light commercial systems. It features a biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film backing paired with an acrylic adhesive. The BOPP backing provides UV resistance and flexibility, allowing the tape to conform to curved and irregular surfaces without lifting or cracking. The acrylic adhesive is formulated for cold-weather performance and maintains a strong bond across a wide temperature range from -40 degrees F to 185 degrees F. The tape measures 48 millimeters wide by 109.7 meters long at a 3 mil thickness. HVAC technicians and sheet metal workers reach for this tape when a durable, code-compliant duct seal is required.
This tape is used primarily for sealing flexible air ducts and air connectors in HVAC installations. It is also suited for securing flex duct to duct wrap facing, making metal-to-metal connections, and sealing rubberized foam pipe insulation. The flexible backing is especially useful when working with round or irregular duct geometries where a rigid tape would bridge gaps or peel at edges. It meets UL 181B-FX listing requirements, making it acceptable for use on Class 1 flexible air ducts and air connectors where a listed closure system is required by code.
Listed under UL 181B-FX for use on Class 1 flexible air ducts and flexible air connectors. Suitable for sealing flexible air duct, air connectors, flex duct to duct wrap facing, metal-to-metal connections, and rubberized foam pipe insulation per the stated application data.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the mechanical code of the applicable jurisdiction and the duct system manufacturer's instructions. Shut down the air handling system and confirm zero pressure in the duct before applying tape to ensure proper adhesion. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or loose debris before application. Do not use this tape as a substitute for mastic sealant where mastic is specifically required by local code or equipment manufacturer guidelines.
