The SOUTHLAND 520-001BG is a 1/4-inch malleable black iron 90-degree elbow fitting designed for threaded pipe assemblies in gas, air, and general plumbing applications. Manufactured to ANSI/ASTM A-197 standards for malleable iron, this fitting delivers reliable performance under the mechanical stresses common in trade installations. Threads conform to ANSI B1.20.1 for consistent, leak-free engagement with standard NPT pipe. Each fitting is individually flag tagged and 100% inspected and quality tested before leaving the facility. Plumbers, pipefitters, and gas service technicians will find this elbow suitable for tight-quarter direction changes in black iron pipe systems.
This elbow is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where a 90-degree directional change is required in a 1/4-inch threaded line. Common applications include natural gas distribution piping, compressed air lines, and steam or water distribution systems where malleable iron is the specified material. The black iron finish makes it appropriate for gas service and other non-potable applications. Its compact size suits installations in confined spaces such as mechanical rooms, utility chases, and appliance connections.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/4-inch NPT threaded black iron pipe systems in gas, air, and general fluid service applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC requirements. Shut off gas or system pressure and verify the line is fully depressurized before disassembling or installing any threaded fitting. Apply listed pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to the male threads before assembly. Hand-tighten first, then bring to full engagement with a pipe wrench, taking care not to over-torque the fitting and crack the threads.
