The RCD p282-0423 is a two-pole, 40-amp contactor designed as an OEM-style replacement component for HVAC systems. A contactor is an electrically controlled switch that opens and closes the high-voltage circuit to compressors and condenser fan motors in cooling equipment. When the thermostat calls for cooling, a low-voltage signal energizes the contactor coil, pulling in the contacts and allowing line-voltage power to flow to the load. Licensed HVAC technicians install and replace contactors as part of routine maintenance and seasonal service. At 40 amps, this contactor is sized for typical residential and light-commercial condensing unit applications.
This contactor fits into the electrical compartment of split-system air conditioners and heat pumps where a two-pole switching device is required. It is commonly replaced when contacts show pitting, burning, or welding, or when the coil fails to pull in under normal control-voltage conditions. The two-pole configuration simultaneously switches both legs of a 240-volt circuit, making it appropriate for single-phase compressor loads found in residential condensing units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement contactor for Carrier HVAC condensing units and split-system air conditioners requiring a two-pole, 40-amp contactor.
Contactor replacement is performed by a licensed HVAC technician. Disconnect and lock out all power to the condensing unit at the disconnect box before opening the electrical compartment. Photograph existing wiring before removal to aid reinstallation. Verify coil voltage and amperage rating match system specifications before energizing the unit.
