The EWC CONTROLS ECLBD-8 is a single-blade, round pressure regulating bypass damper designed to relieve excess static pressure in multi-zone HVAC systems. Operating on a barometric relief principle, it redirects surplus air when zone dampers close and system static pressure rises beyond the set point. Resistance is tuned by offsetting the pivot arm and adjusting the counterweights — no motorized actuator or control wiring required. Rated at 400 CFM and sized at 8 inches in diameter, the ECLBD-8 offers a straightforward, mechanical solution for pressure management. HVAC technicians and sheet metal contractors are the primary installers of this component.
The ECLBD-8 is applied in residential and light-commercial forced-air systems where multiple zone dampers create fluctuating static pressure conditions. When zone dampers close, unrelieved static pressure can overload the blower, reduce airflow efficiency, and cause comfort complaints. Installing a bypass damper in a common bypass duct between the supply and return plenum equalizes pressure passively. The arm can be inserted into either side of the damper body, giving the installer flexibility in duct routing and orientation during rough-in.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation bypass damper for 8-inch round duct systems in residential and light-commercial multi-zone forced-air HVAC applications.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed HVAC technician or sheet metal contractor. Power down the air handler or furnace at the disconnect before cutting into supply or return ductwork. The damper is installed in a bypass duct connecting the supply plenum to the return plenum; duct sizing and placement should follow the zoning system manufacturer guidelines and applicable mechanical codes. Do not block or restrict the damper blade travel after installation, as this will prevent proper pressure relief.
