The scroll mechanism is designed with two interlocking spiral elements where one remains stationary while the other orbits. This movement compresses the refrigerant smoothly in a continuous compression with fewer moving parts, leading to higher efficiency and a quieter operation. This is in contrast to reciprocating compressors that rely on a piston-and-cylinder system for more moving parts, which creates more noise, and vibration, and typically has lower energy efficiency.
