The ZOELLER zoeller-m53 is a 1/3 HP submersible sump pump built for residential and light commercial water removal applications. The motor and pump housing are cast iron, and the base is engineered thermoplastic. A float-operated, 2-pole mechanical switch controls automatic operation. The unit ships with an oil-filled, hermetically sealed motor with automatic reset thermal overload protection, a carbon and ceramic shaft seal, and sleeve bearings that run in an oil bath. The entire pump is pressure-tested after assembly and carries a corrosion-resistant, powder-coated epoxy finish with no sheet metal parts that can rust.
The zoeller-m53 is suited for sump pit applications in residential basements and crawl spaces as well as light commercial dewatering and effluent transfer where solids passage is a factor. The float switch activates the pump at a pit depth of 7.25 inches and shuts it off at 3 inches, making it compatible with standard variable-level, long-cycle control systems. The 1.5-inch NPT discharge connects to standard schedule 40 or schedule 80 PVC discharge piping commonly used in these installations.
Designed as an OEM-style submersible sump pump replacement suitable for standard residential and light commercial sump pit installations using a 1.5-inch NPT discharge connection.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the IPC. Disconnect all power to the circuit before lowering the pump into the sump pit or servicing any components. The 1.5-inch NPT discharge outlet should be connected using appropriate fittings and a check valve to prevent backflow when the pump cycles off. Verify pit diameter and depth accommodate the pump dimensions before installation.
