The YALE 1800-36-689 is a Grade 1 rim exit device designed for single doors with widths ranging from 2.5 inches to 3 inches. Built from aluminum with an aluminum painted finish, this device mounts to the surface of the door and allows for panic-bar style egress in commercial and institutional applications. The push bar projects 1.75 inches when depressed and 2.5 inches in the active position. Compliant with ANSI A156.3 Type 1 and BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 standards, and UL/cUL Listed, it is suited for installations where life-safety code compliance is required. Licensed locksmiths and commercial door hardware installers are the typical trade professionals for this product.
The 1800-36-689 is appropriate for light commercial, institutional, and multi-tenant residential applications requiring code-compliant panic hardware on standard-width single doors. Its rim-mount design works with hollow metal and aluminum-framed doors where mortise or concealed vertical rod hardware is not specified. Typical installations include stairwell doors, corridor egress doors, and secondary exit points that must meet local building and fire codes.
Designed for single doors with a minimum width of 2.5 inches and a maximum width of 3 inches. Part of the Yale 1800 Series, compatible with standard rim-mount door preparations on hollow metal and aluminum-framed door assemblies where a surface-mounted exit device is specified.
Installation should be performed by a licensed locksmith or qualified commercial door hardware technician familiar with local building and fire codes. The door assembly must be verified for compatibility with rim-mount hardware before installation, and any existing latch or lock hardware should be removed as required. Consult the applicable building and fire codes, including IBC egress requirements, to confirm proper mounting height and operational force compliance. Do not modify the push bar mechanism or housing, as doing so may void UL listing.
