The XTRWELD WTLAN20040 is a 2.0% lanthanated tungsten electrode for gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), sold in a 10-piece pack. At 0.040 inches in diameter and color-coded blue, this electrode is designed for precision TIG welding on steel, stainless steel, and other common weld metals. Lanthanated tungsten offers excellent arc starting, low burnoff, strong arc stability, and reliable reignition. It shares conductivity characteristics with 2% thoriated tungsten, making it a viable non-radioactive alternative for many applications. Licensed welders and skilled fabricators in HVAC, plumbing, and industrial trades rely on this electrode for clean, consistent welds.
The WTLAN20040 is suited for both AC and DC (-) welding processes. When used on DC or AC square wave power sources, it maintains a sharp pointed tip, which is ideal for welding carbon steel and stainless steel. It can also be balled for use with AC sine wave machines. Compared to 1.5% lanthanated tungsten, the 2.0% formulation delivers superior arc starting and improved AC performance, and in many cases it can replace 2% thoriated tungsten without requiring significant changes to existing welding programs or machine settings.
Designed for use with GTAW (TIG) welding equipment operating on AC or DC (-) power, including square wave and sine wave power sources. Suitable for welding steel, stainless steel, and similar base metals.
Installation and use of GTAW electrodes should be performed by qualified welders following applicable AWS standards and shop safety procedures. Always power down and de-energize the welding machine before inserting or changing the electrode in the torch collet. Ensure the collet body and collet are matched to the 0.040 inch electrode diameter before striking an arc. Proper ventilation is recommended when welding, as all welding processes generate fumes.
