The WILLIAMS 1-143-06-2-0 is a 6-inch mill file with a second-cut tooth pattern rated at 53 teeth per inch (TPI). Mill files are single-cut, flat files used to produce smooth, accurate finishes on metal surfaces including saw blades, tool edges, and machined parts. The second-cut grade falls between bastard and smooth, making it appropriate for general deburring, edge dressing, and light material removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This file is sized for hand use by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and general trade professionals who maintain or sharpen metal tooling in the field or shop.
This file is suited for bench work and field maintenance applications where a controlled, moderate-cut file is needed. Common uses include dressing burrs from cut pipe and conduit, sharpening saw teeth, smoothing weld seads, and refining metal edges before assembly. The 6-inch length is compact enough for tight workspaces and toolbox carry. It is appropriate for both residential and light commercial trade use.
Designed as a general-purpose mill file for use on metal surfaces including tool steel, cast iron, aluminum, and copper alloys. Compatible with standard file handles sold separately.
Mill files are hand tools installed in a compatible file handle before use - operating a file without a handle presents a puncture hazard and is not recommended. Always secure the workpiece in a vise before filing. File on the forward stroke only and lift on the return to preserve tooth life. Keep the file clean with a file card to prevent pinning and maintain cutting efficiency.
