The WILKINS 975XL2-H 1-1/4 is a reduced pressure zone (RPZ) backflow preventer designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination caused by backpressure or backsiphonage. Built in a Y-pattern body configuration, this assembly accepts 1-1/4 inch NPT connections and incorporates quarter-turn ball valves for fast isolation during testing or service. The bronze body construction provides corrosion resistance suitable for commercial and light industrial plumbing applications. Licensed plumbers and backflow technicians are the primary installers and testers for this type of assembly.
This backflow preventer is suited for commercial, industrial, and residential applications where a high-hazard cross-connection requires an RPZ-rated assembly. Common installation points include irrigation systems, fire suppression supply lines, boiler makeup water connections, and process water feeds. The 1-1/4 inch NPT end style allows direct threaded connection to standard Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 piping. Its Y-pattern orientation helps minimize pressure drop across the assembly compared to straight-through inline configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style RPZ backflow preventer assembly for 1-1/4 inch NPT threaded plumbing systems requiring reduced pressure zone protection.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber and, in most jurisdictions, tested annually by a certified backflow assembly tester. Shut off the upstream water supply and relieve system pressure before installation. The assembly must be installed in the orientation specified by the manufacturer and local authority having jurisdiction, typically horizontally with the relief port unobstructed and directed toward a proper drain. Consult local plumbing codes and IAPMO or IPC requirements for minimum clearances and test port access.
