The WILKINS 12-975XL2 is a reduced pressure zone (RPZ) backflow preventer designed for domestic water systems. It protects potable water supply lines from contamination caused by backpressure or backsiphonage. The 12-975XL2 features a bronze body construction, FNPT end connections sized at 1/2 inch nominal, and quarter-turn ball valve shutoffs for fast, reliable isolation during testing and service. Licensed plumbers and mechanical contractors install this type of assembly in residential and light commercial applications where local codes require RPZ-level protection on the potable water supply.
The 12-975XL2 is suited for domestic water service applications where a reduced pressure backflow assembly is required by code. The 1/2 inch nominal size is typical for residential branch lines, irrigation connections, boiler fill lines, and similar low-to-moderate flow service points. The FNPT end style allows direct threaded connection to standard pipe or fittings without additional adapters in most installations.
Designed as an OEM-style reduced pressure backflow preventer for 1/2 inch nominal domestic water supply applications where FNPT threaded connections and RPZ-rated assemblies are required.
Installation and annual testing of RPZ backflow preventers must be performed by a licensed plumber or certified backflow prevention assembly tester, as required by most local jurisdictions and ASSE standards. Shut off the upstream water supply completely before installation or service. The assembly must be installed with adequate clearance below for the relief valve to discharge freely without creating a cross-connection. Do not install in a pit or any location where the relief valve outlet could become submerged.
