The WESTERN ENTERPRISES 683 is a hand-tight NPT nipple rated for pressures up to 3000 psig and designed for use in industrial gas distribution systems. Machined to CGA specifications, this brass nipple features a 1/4-inch National Pipe Thread and measures 2.5 inches in length. It is intended for use with hand-tight nuts and is compatible with o-ring type connections, which provide a reliable seal without requiring wrench action at pressures within the rated range. Plumbers, pipefitters, and gas system technicians install this fitting during gas line assembly and regulator connections in industrial environments.
This nipple is rated for Hydrogen (CGA-350) and Natural Gas (CGA-350) gas services in industrial applications. Its hand-tight design streamlines installation where frequent connect and disconnect cycles are required. Note that CGA fittings rated above 3000 psig do not include soft tips and require wrench action for final gas-tight seating. This part is one of five available nut and nipple combination types offered in this product family. Not all types are available for every gas service.
Designed for use with hand-tight nuts in CGA-350 gas service applications handling Hydrogen and Natural Gas at pressures up to 3000 psig. O-ring type nipples should always be paired with hand-tight nuts. Not all nut and nipple combination types are available for all gas services.
Installation should be performed by a qualified pipefitter, plumber, or industrial gas technician familiar with CGA fitting standards and applicable codes. Always shut off gas supply and verify zero pressure at the fitting before disassembly or installation. Hand-tight connections rely on o-ring sealing and should not be over-tightened beyond hand pressure at rated pressures. For systems exceeding 3000 psig, select a fitting rated for that service range, as higher-rated CGA fittings require wrench action for final seating and do not include soft tips.
