The WEST PENN WIRE AQ295BK1000 is a shielded, water-resistant security cable designed for low-voltage signal and control wiring in demanding environments. It features one twisted pair of 14 AWG stranded bare copper conductors with a foil or braid shield to reject electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference. At 1000 feet, this reel is sized for commercial and industrial security installations where long cable runs are standard. Licensed security system technicians and low-voltage contractors are the primary installers. The water-resistant construction makes it suitable for applications where moisture exposure is a concern, including outdoor conduit runs and partially exposed raceways.
This cable is suited for security, access control, intercom, and alarm system wiring where shielded conductors are required to maintain signal integrity over extended distances. The 14 AWG stranded conductor provides flexibility during installation and lower resistance over longer runs compared to smaller gauges. It is commonly pulled through conduit or routed in cable trays in commercial buildings, warehouses, and perimeter security installations. The black jacket blends with standard security installation practices and meets typical aesthetic requirements for exposed or semi-exposed routing.
Designed as a general-purpose shielded low-voltage security cable suitable for alarm, access control, and intercom systems requiring 14 AWG shielded twisted pair wiring.
Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage or security systems contractor in accordance with NFPA 70 (NEC) Article 725 for Class 2 and Class 3 remote-control and signaling circuits. De-energize and lock out the system before terminating conductors at control panels or field devices. Use appropriate conduit fill calculations when routing through conduit, and maintain minimum bend radius to avoid damaging the shield or jacket. Terminate the drain wire or shield at one end only to prevent ground loops unless the system design specifies otherwise.
