The WESCO TP162 is a 1-gang BX cut-in electrical box designed for retrofit and remodel installations where a new outlet, switch, or device location is required in an existing finished wall. Cut-in boxes, also called old-work boxes, mount directly to drywall or plaster without requiring access to wall studs. The TP162 is sized for single-gang device installations and is compatible with armored cable (BX) wiring methods. Electricians use this box when adding circuits or relocating devices in residential and light commercial settings without opening the wall cavity.
This box is suited for retrofit electrical work in residential homes, apartments, and light commercial spaces where BX or AC cable is the wiring method of choice. It is installed directly into a cut opening in an existing finished wall surface, making it a standard solution for service upgrades, circuit additions, and device relocations performed by licensed electricians working to NEC requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard retrofit solution for single-gang cut-in electrical box applications using BX or armored cable wiring methods.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician. Always de-energize the circuit at the breaker panel and confirm voltage is absent with a meter before cutting the wall opening or pulling cable. The box is secured to the wall surface using the integrated retention ears or clamps per the manufacturer design — do not over-tighten fasteners on thin drywall. Work must comply with NEC Article 314 requirements for box fill, support, and cable termination.
