The WELLER PTA8 is a chisel-style soldering tip designed for use with compatible Weller soldering stations. It measures 0.063 inches in point width and 1.299 inches in tip length, making it suited for general-purpose through-hole soldering, pad tinning, and moderate-surface-area joints where a flat, broad contact point improves heat transfer. The chisel profile delivers consistent thermal contact across flat pads and component leads, reducing dwell time at the joint. This tip is part of the PT series and is installed and replaced by electronics technicians, electricians, and bench-level service professionals.
The PTA8 is intended for bench and field soldering applications where a PT series tip is specified. Typical use cases include circuit board rework, wire termination, and light electrical assembly work. The chisel geometry is well suited to drag soldering on through-hole boards and tacking surface-mount components during rework. It is used with compatible Weller soldering stations that accept PT series tips.

Installation and tip changes should be performed only after the soldering station has been powered off and the tip has fully cooled to ambient temperature. Use the appropriate tip removal tool or wrench if required by the station model — never grip a hot tip with unprotected hands. Tin the new tip immediately after first heat-up to prevent oxidation and extend tip life. Follow the station manufacturer's guidance for tip seating torque and maintenance intervals.
