The WEILER 96257 is a Type 27 flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on steel and stainless steel surfaces. Part of the Big Cat series, it features a zirconia alumina abrasive cloth bonded to a phenolic backing and is rated at a maximum of 12,000 RPM. The 4.5 inch diameter disc mounts via a 7/8 inch arbor hole, making it compatible with standard right-angle grinders. At 60 grit, it falls in the coarse grade range, delivering fast stock removal without requiring frequent disc changes. Metal fabricators, maintenance welders, and pipefitters rely on this disc for weld dressing and prep work ahead of coating or inspection.
This disc is suited for use on steel and stainless steel in both shop and field environments. Primary applications include weld removal and surface preparation, where consistent cut rate and disc life are critical. The flat Type 27 profile allows the operator to work at a low grinding angle, making it practical for flat stock, weld beads, and structural members. It is sold individually and is a common consumable in metal fabrication, HVAC sheet metal work, and industrial maintenance operations.
Designed for use on steel and stainless steel with standard 4.5 inch right-angle grinders equipped with a 7/8 inch arbor. Rated applications include weld removal and surface preparation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with angle grinder safety practices. Verify that the grinder's no-load RPM does not exceed the 12,000 RPM disc rating before mounting. Always inspect the disc for damage before use and ensure the arbor nut is properly torqued per the grinder manufacturer's specifications. Wear appropriate PPE including a face shield, gloves, and hearing protection during operation.
