The WEILER 96247 is a Type 27 coated flap disc engineered for aggressive material removal on metal surfaces. Part of the Big Cat series, this disc uses zirconia alumina abrasive on a cloth backing with a phenolic backing plate, delivering consistent cut rate and long service life under heavy use. It runs at a maximum of 12,000 RPM and carries an 80 grit medium grade, making it well suited for weld removal and surface preparation tasks. The 5/8-11 threaded arbor hole mounts directly to standard angle grinders. At 0.4 pounds, it is a lightweight consumable handled daily by fabricators and metal finishing tradespeople.
This disc is designed for use on steel and stainless steel in fabrication shops, manufacturing facilities, and field metal work. Typical applications include weld seam removal, scale removal, and surface conditioning before coating or inspection. The Type 27 flat profile keeps the disc close to the workpiece surface, which suits flat and slightly contoured stock. It fits 4.5-inch angle grinders with a 5/8-11 spindle, the most common configuration in professional metal trades.
Designed for use with 4.5-inch angle grinders equipped with a 5/8-11 threaded spindle. Rated for steel and stainless steel applications including weld removal and surface preparation.
Mounting and replacement of flap discs should follow the grinder manufacturer guidelines and ANSI B7.1 safety standards. Ensure the grinder is unplugged or the power source is locked out before changing discs. Thread the 5/8-11 arbor hole onto the spindle and tighten with the appropriate spanner wrench. Do not exceed the 12,000 RPM maximum speed rating marked on the disc.
