The WEILER 96243 is a Type 27 flap disc designed for aggressive material removal and surface finishing on steel and stainless steel. Part of the Big Cat series, it features an 80-grit zirconia alumina abrasive on a cloth backing bonded to a phenolic hub, delivering consistent cut rate and long disc life under heavy use. The 4.5-inch diameter disc mounts via a 7/8-inch arbor hole and is rated to a maximum of 12,000 RPM. Metalworkers, fabricators, and maintenance technicians use this disc for weld grinding, blending, and surface preparation work where a medium-grade, durable abrasive is required.
This disc is suited for use in metal fabrication shops, structural steel work, pipe work, and maintenance welding environments where weld removal and pre-paint surface preparation are routine tasks. The Type 27 flat profile keeps the disc parallel to the work surface, making it effective for flat stock, plate, and tube profiles. Rated applications include work on mild steel and stainless steel. The cloth backing provides flexibility during edge blending while the zirconia alumina grain self-sharpens during use, maintaining cut rate as the disc wears.
Designed for use on mild steel and stainless steel with 4.5-inch angle grinders accepting a 7/8-inch arbor. Rated applications include weld removal and surface preparation.
Installation is performed by qualified users following standard angle grinder safety practices. Confirm the grinder free speed does not exceed the 12,000 RPM disc rating before mounting. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and replace if any defects are found. Always install and operate the grinder with the manufacturer-specified guard in place, and wear appropriate PPE including a face shield and hearing protection during operation.
