The WATTS BRASS TUBULAR 1/8 SV is a non-vacuum, non-adjustable, float-type steam air vent designed for one-pipe steam heating systems. The brass body features an angle connection and a brass float mechanism that automatically vents trapped air from the system during the heating cycle, allowing steam to fill the radiator or main. Maximum operating pressure is 10 psi. Licensed plumbers and steam heating technicians are the typical installers for this type of component. It is a straightforward replacement or new-installation part suited for residential and light commercial steam heat applications.
This vent is used in one-pipe steam heating systems where air must be expelled to allow steam distribution. Typical installation points include radiators, convectors, and steam mains. The angle-connection design accommodates standard threaded piping configurations common in older residential steam systems. At startup, trapped air is released through the vent; when steam arrives, the float closes the valve to prevent steam loss.
Designed for use in one-pipe steam heating systems, including applications at radiators, convectors, and steam mains where automatic air venting is required.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or steam heating technician. Shut down the boiler and allow the system to cool and depressurize completely before removing or installing any air vent. Use thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for steam service on all threaded connections. Verify that system operating pressure does not exceed the 10 psi maximum rating of this vent before placing it in service.
