The WATSON MCDANIEL wd600 is a thermodynamic steam trap rated for up to 600 psi service. It operates on the thermodynamic disc principle, using the difference in velocity between flash steam and condensate to open and close the valve seat. The wd600 connects via 3/4 inch threaded ports and is built to handle both saturated and superheated steam conditions. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and stationary engineers typically install this trap on steam distribution systems in industrial and commercial facilities.
The wd600 is commonly deployed as a drip trap on steam mains and steam supply lines to discharge condensate while preventing live steam from passing through. It is also suitable for steam tracing applications, though thermostatic traps are the standard recommendation for tracing service. The trap is well suited for outdoor installations where freezing conditions are a concern, as the thermodynamic disc design provides inherent freeze resistance compared to float-and-thermostatic designs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation thermodynamic steam trap for steam mains, supply lines, and drip leg applications on high-pressure steam systems up to 600 psi.
Installation should be performed by a licensed pipefitter or stationary engineer in accordance with applicable steam system codes and facility safety procedures. Isolate the steam line and depressurize fully before removing or installing the trap. Install the trap with the disc cap oriented as specified by the manufacturer to ensure proper disc seating and drainage. Inspect upstream strainers and verify proper drip leg depth before returning the system to service.
