The WATSON MCDANIEL O-12-N-14-B is a direct-operated pressure regulator designed for steam service. It automatically reduces and maintains downstream steam pressure without requiring an external pilot or power source, making it a reliable choice for mechanical rooms, process lines, and building heating systems. The body is constructed from cast iron, providing durability in demanding steam environments. The internal trim uses phosphor bronze components suited for steam compatibility. The regulator handles an outlet pressure range of 10 to 50 PSIG and connects via a 0.5 inch NPT port. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and steam system technicians are the typical installers.
This regulator is applied in residential and commercial steam heating systems as well as light industrial process steam lines. The direct-operated design suits applications where a compact, self-contained pressure-reducing station is needed. The 0.5 inch NPT connection accommodates smaller branch lines and service drops. The 10 to 50 PSIG control range covers low-pressure steam heating and many general-purpose process steam applications where a stable reduced pressure must be maintained downstream of a higher-pressure supply.

Installation should be performed by a licensed pipefitter or steam system technician in accordance with applicable mechanical codes. Isolate and fully depressurize the steam line before installation and confirm the system is at ambient temperature before handling any fittings. Install the regulator in the correct flow direction as indicated by the arrow on the body, and use appropriate thread sealant rated for steam service on all NPT connections. After installation, bring system pressure up gradually and verify downstream pressure with a calibrated gauge before returning the system to service.
