The WARWICK HANGER 1551-5 is a galvanized carbon steel pipe insulation shield designed to protect pipe insulation at hanger contact points. It fits around 5-inch pipe with an inner diameter of 5-9/16 inches and a shield length of 10 inches. Formed from 18-gauge carbon steel with a galvanized plated finish, this shield maintains structural support for foam, fiberglass, or high-density insulation where a hanger or support clamp would otherwise compress or damage it. Each package contains 25 shields, making it a practical quantity for multi-drop or multi-riser installations.
This shield is used in commercial and industrial plumbing and mechanical piping systems where insulated lines require hanger support. Typical applications include chilled water, hot water, and refrigerant piping runs that pass through mechanical rooms, ceiling spaces, or equipment rooms. Any insulated 5-inch pipe that requires periodic support from rods, beam clamps, or trapeze hangers is a candidate for this shield. Plumbers and pipefitters install this component as a standard part of insulated piping assemblies to preserve insulation integrity over the life of the system.
Designed for use with standard pipe hangers on 5-inch nominal pipe insulated with foam, fiberglass, or high-density insulation systems.
Installed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters as part of supported insulated piping assemblies. The shield is placed around the pipe insulation at each hanger location before the hanger or clamp is tightened, preventing the support hardware from cutting into or compressing the insulation. Shut off and depressurize the piping system before making any modifications to existing hangers. Follow applicable IPC and ASME B31 piping support standards for hanger spacing and load requirements.
