The WALTER-TITEX 5337171 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for high-productivity drilling in demanding materials. Built to DIN 1897 specification, this bit features a 130-degree conical point with U-geometry and a parabolic flute profile that promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduced heat buildup. At 0.136 inches (wire size 29) in diameter with an overall length of 2.0472 inches, it fits standard drill chucks via a straight-cylindrical shank. The M35 cobalt material grade provides elevated heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS. Licensed HVAC techs, maintenance machinists, and fabrication shops installing or modifying metal assemblies will find this bit suited for precision short-hole work.
This drill bit is optimized for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and general steel applications. Its screw machine (stub) length geometry provides increased rigidity in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools where shorter flute length reduces deflection. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration make it particularly effective in interrupted cuts and when drilling into work-hardening stainless grades. It is sold individually and is well-suited for production environments requiring consistent hole quality at the No. 29 wire gauge diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose drill bit for applications requiring a No. 29 wire size (0.136 inch) diameter hole in ferrous and non-ferrous base materials. Compatible with drill presses, CNC machining centers, and standard hand-held power tools accepting a straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm the shank is fully seated and clamped in the chuck or collet. Appropriate cutting fluid or coolant is recommended when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to extend tool life, even though this bit does not feature through-tool coolant. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or wear is visible to maintain hole tolerance.
