The WALTER-PROTOTYP 7557025 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in a 3/4-10 UNC configuration. Built from cobalt high speed steel with a TiAlN coating, it handles demanding tapping operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous metals. The 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation in blind holes, reducing the risk of chip packing and tap breakage. With a 2B/3B class of fit and right-hand thread direction, this tap is suited for precision threading work performed by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance professionals across manufacturing environments.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading applications where reliable chip removal and thread accuracy are critical. Its material grade WY80RG cobalt construction provides elevated heat resistance compared to standard HSS, making it a practical choice for production runs in harder alloys such as stainless steel and cast iron. The TC117 series designation indicates it is part of a catalog line engineered for consistent performance in medium to high-volume tapping operations. The semi-bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard taper tap, giving more usable thread length in tight setups.
Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous metals. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, and N. No coolant-through feature; intended for use with external cutting fluid application as appropriate for the workpiece material.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists using a calibrated tapping head, CNC machine, or appropriate tapping fixture. Before use, verify that the pilot hole diameter and depth meet the requirements for 3/4-10 UNC threading and the desired thread engagement length. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material throughout the operation. Never reverse a spiral flute tap under power without confirming the machine is programmed for rigid tapping or that the tapping attachment allows for it, as improper reversal can cause tap breakage.
