The WALTER-PROTOTYP 6245712 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from powdered metal with a proprietary THL (Hardlube) coating, this tap delivers consistent thread quality while reducing friction and tool wear during production runs. It features a modified bottoming chamfer and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in blind-hole applications. The overall length is 4.331 inches (110.01 mm), with a thread length of 0.709 inches (18.01 mm) and a tapping depth of 1.535 inches (39.00 mm). Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is suited for use in both manual and CNC tapping operations where 1/2-13 UNC threads are required in blind or through holes. It produces a 2B class of fit, which is the standard commercial thread tolerance for most general-purpose fastener applications. The right-hand flute direction and fast flute style make it particularly effective in short-chipping materials. Verified workpiece material compatibility includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, gray cast iron, malleable cast iron, spheroidal cast iron, and vermicular cast iron. It belongs to Series AEP2256302.
Designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC threads in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals. Compatible workpiece material codes: P, M, K, and N per ISO material classification. Part of WALTER-PROTOTYP Series AEP2256302.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or CNC technician familiar with tapping operations and speeds. Always ensure the machine spindle and workpiece fixture are properly aligned before engaging the tap to prevent thread distortion or tool breakage. Confirm that the correct tapping fluid or cutting lubricant is applied for the workpiece material being threaded, even though this tool does not require through-coolant. Shut down spindle rotation completely before removing or changing the tap.
