The WALTER 8296292 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert engineered for medium machining operations on cast iron workpieces. Manufactured from carbide with a TiCN+Al2O3+TiCN multilayer coating, it delivers high wear resistance under demanding cutting conditions. The insert features a wiper edge geometry that improves surface finish at standard feed rates without sacrificing tool life. With an 80-degree rhombic shape, a 7-degree relief angle, and a 0.80 mm corner radius, it is designed for positive-rake toolholders used in turning centers and CNC lathes. Installation is handled by licensed machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for medium-duty turning of cast iron components in both production and job-shop environments. The MW4 chip breaker geometry manages chip flow effectively during continuous and semi-interrupted cuts at moderate depths. A maximum depth of cut of 4.00 mm makes it appropriate for finish-to-semi-finish turning passes. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of right-hand and left-hand CCMT-compatible toolholders. It is a common choice for CNC lathe operations where consistent surface finish and extended insert life on gray or ductile cast iron are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CCMT-compatible screw-lock toolholders accepting inserts with ISO size code 09T308 and ANSI size code 3(2.5)2.
Insert replacement is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians on powered-down CNC lathes or turning centers with all machine motion stopped and controls locked out. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder pocket without overtightening, which can crack the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket seat for debris or wear before seating the insert. Always index to a fresh cutting edge rather than reusing a worn edge to maintain dimensional accuracy.
