The WALTER 8132984 is an uncoated carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on non-ferrous metals and superalloys, including titanium. Conforming to ANSI insert code DCGT32.51 and ISO code DCGT11T304, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 18 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The FN2 chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style deliver clean, controlled chip formation at light depths of cut. Two usable cutting edges and screw-style insert holding make this a practical choice for production turning environments.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, copper, and brass, as well as superalloys and titanium where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. Its neutral hand orientation supports use in turning, facing, boring, and back turning applications. The WN10 carbide grade is formulated for these material groups and is identified under material grades N10 and S10. A maximum depth of cut of 0.098 inches (2.49 mm) positions this insert squarely in finishing rather than roughing work.
Designed for use in DCGT-style toolholders accepting size 32.51 (ISO 11T304) inserts with screw-style clamping. Compatible with tooling systems conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for this insert size code. Verify toolholder clearance angle and pocket geometry match the DCGT (C-clearance, G-tolerance, positive geometry) specification before installation.
This insert is installed by machining professionals using appropriate DCGT-compatible toolholders and torx or hex-key insert screws per toolholder manufacturer torque guidance. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear that could compromise seating. Handle carbide inserts carefully - edges are brittle and contact with hard surfaces can cause chipping prior to use.
