The WALTER 8115969 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG-MP5 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying the WPP10G grade, it features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that resists heat and abrasive wear during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.016-inch corner radius, making it well suited for light-to-medium roughing and finishing passes. It is a neutral-hand insert with a chamfered and honed cutting edge and a negative rake geometry. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders as a direct, indexable cutting element.
This insert is rated primarily for steel (ISO material code P, material grade P10) and secondarily for cast iron (ISO material code K). The MP5 chip breaker geometry and negative rake angle at 15 degrees support turning, facing, boring, and back-turning operations. With four cutting edges per insert and a maximum depth of cut of 0.654 inches, it is suited to production environments where consistent chip control and tool life on ferrous materials are priorities. The ISO designation for this insert is VNMG160404-MP5 WPP10G, and it conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding methods with a clearance code N and tolerance code M. Compatible with toolholders specified for a 3/8-inch inscribed circle VNMG insert with a 0.150-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO VNMG160404 standards, allowing fitment in any conforming holder from any manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket walls using the clamp and pin holding method specified for the toolholder; do not overtighten the clamp screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge, as contamination will affect runout and surface finish.
