The WALTER 8115723 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for steel and cast iron machining in production turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert carries the WPP20G grade designation and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers heat resistance and wear performance across a range of cutting conditions. The RP7 chip breaker geometry is suited for roughing and medium machining passes. With a 0.75-inch inscribed circle, a 0.047-inch corner radius, and four usable cutting edges, this insert is built for high-removal-rate applications where tool life and edge consistency matter.
This insert is intended for use in CNC lathes, turning centers, and boring applications where the workpiece material is primarily steel (ISO P) or cast iron (ISO K). The CNMG geometry with negative rake and negative side clearance suits heavy interrupted or continuous cuts at moderate to aggressive feed rates. The RP7 chip breaker manages chip control during roughing passes, making it appropriate for first-operation and pre-finish turning on bar stock, castings, and forgings. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities are the primary users of this insert.
Designed for CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 3/4-inch inscribed circle insert with a 1/4-inch thickness and 0.312-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG643 and ISO insert code CNMG190612, allowing direct substitution in any toolholder rated for those standards. Compatible with clamp-style and pin-lock toolholder retention systems.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before indexing or replacing an insert. Use the correct torque driver or wrench specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp or pin - do not overtighten by hand. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction relative to the programmed tool path before resuming machine operation.
