The WALTER 8115580 is a CNMG432-RP5 WPP30G grade solid carbide turning insert designed for roughing and medium machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers wear resistance and thermal protection during interrupted and continuous cuts. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting geometry, and the negative rake angle with chamfered and honed cutting edges supports aggressive material removal. Four usable cutting edges are available per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge. The RP5 chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow in medium-to-heavy depths of cut.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers used in production machining environments. It is appropriate for roughing passes on low-alloy and carbon steels (ISO P material group), as well as medium machining on stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). The negative side clearance and neutral hand designation make it compatible with standard CNMG toolholders used in both horizontal and vertical turning setups. Machinists handling high-volume steel part production will find the WPP30G grade well-matched to interrupted cuts and variable feed conditions.
Designed for use in standard CNMG toolholders accepting ANSI size code 432 or ISO size code 120408 inserts. Suitable for toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods with a 0.2030 inch hole diameter. Primary material application is steel (ISO P30); secondary applications include stainless steel (ISO M20) and cast iron (ISO K40).
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating, indexing, or replacing the insert. Confirm the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking or improper seating.
