The WALTER 8115570 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432-MP5 WPP30G series, designed for general-purpose turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN - applied over a carbide substrate in the WPP30G grade, making it well suited for medium machining and roughing passes. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides two usable nose angles per face, and with four cutting edges total, the insert delivers consistent tooling economy across high-volume production runs. The 0.031-inch corner radius balances edge strength with surface finish performance at moderate feed rates.
This insert is intended for machining steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. It is used in applications requiring consistent chip control during roughing and medium machining cycles, where CVD multilayer coatings provide the thermal resistance and wear life needed to sustain productivity. The MP5 chip breaker geometry is engineered for medium to rough chip-breaking scenarios, helping manage chip evacuation in deeper cut passes. Typical users include CNC machinists, toolroom operators, and production shops running high-volume turning programs on ferrous materials.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept an ANSI size 432 insert with clamp or pin holding. ISO equivalent designation is CNMG120408-MP5 WPP30G. Meets both ANSI and ISO standards. Primary application is steel (ISO P30 material grade), with secondary compatibility for cast iron (ISO K40) and stainless steel (ISO M20).
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified screw or clamp hardware for CNMG toolholders to avoid insert rocking or micromovement during cuts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before securing the new insert.
