The WALTER 7349628 is a solid ceramic turning insert in the SNGA series, designed for high-speed metal removal on cast iron workpieces. Grade WCK10 ceramic material is uncoated and runs bright, suited for the abrasive conditions and elevated cutting temperatures common in cast iron turning applications. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a negative rake angle of -20 degrees, and a T-Land cutting edge style that reinforces the edge against chipping under interrupted or continuous cuts. Eight usable cutting edges maximize tool life per insert, reducing tooling cost per part. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary users of this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is applied in turning, facing, and boring operations on cast iron components. It fits toolholders designed for SNGA-style inserts held by clamp and pin methods. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and negative rake are well matched to the short, brittle chips produced when cutting cast iron. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on brake rotors, pump housings, engine blocks, and similar ferrous castings in both production and maintenance machining scenarios.
Designed for use in SNGA-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert retention. Verified compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations per ANSI and ISO insert geometry standards. Industry Standard Number SNGA434T02020 WCK10; ISO Code SNGA120416T02020 WCK10.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or changing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and shim seat are clean and free of chips before clamping to achieve proper seating and prevent premature edge failure. Ceramic inserts are brittle and should not be used for interrupted cuts without verifying the edge style and geometry are rated for that application; confirm toolholder clamping torque against the toolholder manufacturer specifications before operation.
