The WALTER 7251991 is a WNMG432-MM5 WSM10S solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. The insert features a TiAlN and Al2O3 PVD multilayer coating applied over a carbide substrate, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection suited for high-speed and interrupted cuts. With an 80-degree trigon shape, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius, this insert provides six usable cutting edges per unit. The MM5 chip breaker geometry combines a chamfered and honed cutting edge with a negative rake angle of 20 degrees, producing controlled chip flow in tough-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in standard WNMG-compatible toolholders.
This insert is rated primarily for stainless steel and superalloys including titanium, with secondary suitability for steel workpieces. ISO material grades M1, S10, and P10 define the intended workpiece range. It supports turning, facing, and boring operations, making it a versatile single insert for multi-pass setups. The neutral hand orientation and clamp-and-pin holding method suit a wide range of production and job-shop turning centers. Applications include both roughing passes and moderate finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation is critical.
Designed for use in WNMG-series compatible toolholders that accept a clamp and pin holding method. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO codes M and S). Secondary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P). Compatible with standard ANSI and ISO WNMG toolholder systems.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify the clamp and pin are properly engaged before resuming operation. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for damage before each use; never run a visibly chipped or worn insert.
