The WALTER 7251941 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG431-MM5 series, designated WSM20S grade and intended for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a negative rake geometry and a TiCN, Al2O3, and aluminum multilayer PVD coating that supports extended tool life on demanding workpiece materials. With a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.6104-inch insert length, and a 0.0157-inch corner radius, this insert suits medium-duty roughing through finishing passes. It provides four usable cutting edges per insert, making it cost-effective in high-volume turning operations. Licensed CNC machinists and tooling specialists are the primary installers and users.
This insert is rated for primary use on stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups M and S, with secondary suitability for steel (group P). Applicable material grades are M20, S20, and P20. The MM5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. The insert is held in the tool holder by clamp and pin methods, following ANSI and ISO standards. Its ISO code is DNMG150404-MM5 WSM20S.
Designed for use in DNMG-style insert tool holders that accept a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond insert with clamp and pin holding, per ANSI and ISO DNMG standards. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO M and S groups); secondary application is steel (ISO P group) at M20, S20, and P20 material grade ranges.
Installation and indexing of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out, and de-energized state. Ensure the tool holder pocket and clamping components are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the correct torque driver for the clamp screw as specified by the tool holder manufacturer. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.6100 inches stated for this insert geometry.
