The WALTER 7251149 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG432-RM5 WSM20S series, designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. This triangular insert carries a 60-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.031-inch corner radius. The PVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and Al multilayer coating under the WSM20S proprietary grade designation provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. With six available cutting edges and a chamfered and honed edge prep, this insert is suited for production turning where edge life and surface finish consistency matter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production facilities are the primary installers.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with steel (ISO code P) listed as a secondary workpiece material. It covers material grades M20, S20, and P20. The RM5 chip breaker geometry supports turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of depths of cut up to 0.866 inches. The neutral hand designation means it is not specific to a left- or right-hand tool holder orientation. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ISO designation TNMG220408-RM5 WSM20S.
Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO M and S codes); secondary workpiece material is steel (ISO P code). Designed for use in TNMG-style insert pockets using clamp or pin holding methods on standard CNC turning equipment.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and all motion fully arrested before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the insert or stripping the pocket - refer to the toolholder manufacturer's specification for clamping torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
