The WALTER 7251143 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG643-RM5 WSM30S series, designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding machining environments. This square-shaped, negative-rake insert features a PVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and aluminum multilayer coating under the proprietary WSM30S designation, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during heavy-duty cuts. The RM5 chip breaker geometry paired with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style suits interrupted and continuous turning operations. With 8 available cutting edges and a 0.047-inch corner radius, this insert provides extended tool life and consistent chip control. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians operating CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is rated for primary use in stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel (ISO code P), corresponding to material grades M30, S30, and P30. Multi-use applications include turning, facing, and boring. The negative rake angle of 20 degrees and 0-degree relief angle make it well-suited for rigid setups where tool stability and edge strength are priorities. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ISO code SNMG190612-RM5 WSM30S. Clamp and pin holding methods are supported.
Designed for use in SNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 3/4-inch inscribed circle square insert with clamp or pin holding. Verified compatible with ANSI and ISO SNMG643 / SNMG190612 seat configurations. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary material is steel.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Verify that the toolholder pocket and clamping components are clean and free of chips before installation to ensure proper seating and edge engagement. Do not mix insert grades or geometries within the same toolholder without confirming compatibility with the holder manufacturer specifications.
