The WALTER 7251122 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG643-RM5 WSM30S configuration, designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a negative rake angle of 20 degrees and a chamfered and honed cutting edge for consistent performance under load. The PVD-applied TiAlN and Al2O3 multilayer coating in the WSM30S grade provides wear resistance and thermal stability. With four usable cutting edges, 0.047 inches corner radius, and a 0.75 inches inscribed circle, this insert is suited for medium to heavy turning passes. It is installed and changed by machinists and CNC technicians in production machining environments.
This insert is optimized for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary applicability to steel. The RM5 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow in difficult-to-machine materials at moderate to aggressive depths of cut up to 0.762 inches. The insert is held using a clamp and pin system, consistent with standard CNMG toolholders. Applications span aerospace, energy, and general machining where difficult materials demand a tough, coated carbide insert with reliable edge consistency.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders using clamp and pin holding method. Compatible with ANSI and ISO standard CNMG toolholder systems. ISO equivalent designation is CNMG190612-RM5 WSM30S. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations in material grades M30, S30, and P30.
Insert changes should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC technicians with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware to seat the insert properly in the toolholder pocket. Inspect the pocket and shim for damage before seating a new insert. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable OSHA machining standards when handling carbide inserts due to sharp edges.
