The WALTER 7182191 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SDMT series, designated ANSI/ISO code SDMT1204AZN-F57 WKP35G. This single-sided, square-shaped insert features a positive rake angle of 16 degrees, a 15-degree relief angle, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The WKP35G grade substrate is finished with a CVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating, making it well suited for interrupted and continuous milling operations in steel and cast iron. It is held in the cutter body by a screw and is compatible with the M4000 cutter series. Machinists and tooling specialists install this insert in production milling applications where consistent edge life and thermal resistance are priorities.
This insert is designed for milling steel and cast iron workpieces, covering material grades P35 and K35. It fits the M4000 cutter series and is identified by insert size code 1204, with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a maximum depth of cut of 0.5000 inches (12.70 mm). The F57 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of feed and depth-of-cut conditions. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose metal removal in both production shop and job-shop environments.
Compatible with the Walter M4000 cutter series. Insert size code 1204 with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle. Designed for machining steel and cast iron workpieces under material grade classifications P35 and K35.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to secure the insert screw - do not overtighten or undertighten. Inspect the pocket seat and screw threads for wear or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout control.
