The WALTER 7077852 is a solid carbide boring insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. This insert carries the WPP20S grade designation and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiCN that provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The diamond (rhombic) 80-degree included angle delivers strong cutting edge geometry, while the E47 chipbreaker promotes controlled chip evacuation. The 0.031-inch (0.80 mm) corner radius balances surface finish quality against edge strength, making it suitable for semi-finishing and finishing passes.
This insert is intended for boring, internal profiling, and light turning applications where dimensional accuracy is critical. Its primary target workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P), with secondary suitability for cast iron (ISO material code K). The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, which is advantageous in slender boring bar setups where deflection must be minimized. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments.
Designed for use in CCMT-style insert toolholders. ANSI code CCMT3(2.5)2-E47; ISO code CCMT09T308-E47 WPP20S. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping system before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any tooling change. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert to avoid improper seating and premature edge failure. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener when securing the clamping screw - refer to the toolholder manufacturer documentation for fastener requirements. Inspect the insert edge condition at regular intervals and replace before catastrophic failure to protect the workpiece and toolholder.
