The WALTER 7054059 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT-FM2 series, designed for precision metal cutting in demanding machining environments. Carrying the ISO designation DCGT11T304-FM2 WSM10S, this insert features a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al, optimized for cutting stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials. The 55-degree diamond insert shape and FM2 chip breaker geometry deliver controlled chip evacuation and consistent surface finishes. With a 0.4 mm corner radius, a positive rake angle of 18 degrees, and a honed cutting edge, it is suited for finishing and light roughing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically specify this insert for applications where tool life and edge stability are critical.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. It performs best on stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, with secondary capability on steel workpieces. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both left-hand and right-hand tool holders using standard screw-clamp holding. The FM2 chip breaker is engineered for the specific feed and depth ranges common in finish turning of difficult-to-machine alloys. Material grades M1, S10, and P10 define the appropriate cutting condition envelope for this geometry and coating combination.
Designed for use in screw-clamp tool holders accepting DCGT-style inserts with a 55-degree diamond shape, 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and 5/32 inch thickness. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for DCGT insert geometry. Industry standard number DCGT3(2.5)1-FM2 WSM10S applies.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw per the tool holder manufacturer specification; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before inserting to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
