The WALTER 7054057 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT-FM2 series, designed for precision turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. It carries the ISO designation DCGT11T301-FM2 WSM20S and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Al under the proprietary WSM20S grade. The insert has a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 18 degrees and a honed cutting edge for clean, controlled chip formation. With 2 cutting edges and an FM2 chip breaker geometry, it is suited for light to medium material removal in demanding turning applications. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working with close-tolerance finishing operations will recognize this insert class immediately.
This insert is primarily rated for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel (ISO code P), corresponding to material grades M20, S20, and P20. The DCGT style and positive geometry make it well matched to finish turning and semi-finish turning passes where surface integrity and chip control matter. It is a neutral-hand insert, giving it flexibility across a range of toolholders. Typical applications include facing, light boring, and back turning in addition to standard OD turning on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-lock toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond insert with a 7-degree relief angle and 5/32-inch insert thickness. Meets ANSI and ISO standards for the DCGT insert form. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a powered-off and locked-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before torquing the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker geometry for damage before indexing to a fresh edge. Do not exceed the insert's maximum depth of cut rating for the selected workpiece material and grade.
