The WALTER 7054051 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCGT-FM2 series, designed for precision metal removal on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It carries an ISO code of CCGT09T308-FM2 WSM20S and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al under the proprietary WSM20S grade designation. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.80 mm corner radius, an inscribed circle of 9.53 mm (0.3750 inches), and an insert length of 9.67 mm (0.3810 inches). The FM2 chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle of 18 degrees promote controlled chip formation in demanding finishing and semi-finishing operations. Installation is by screw-clamping.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on difficult-to-machine workpiece materials including stainless steel (ISO material code M), superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S), and steel (ISO material code P) as a secondary application. Material grades M20, S20, and P20 reflect its positioning for moderate cutting conditions in these groups. It is intended for use by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments where tight tolerances and controlled surface finish are required on challenging alloys.
Designed for use in CCGT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting inserts with clearance code C, tolerance code G, and an inscribed circle of 3/8 inch (0.3750 inches). Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards; industry standard number CCGT3(2.5)2-FM2 WSM20S.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm all axes are at rest before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker geometry before resuming cuts to confirm correct seating and orientation.
