The WALTER 7053818 is a solid carbide turning insert with ISO designation CNMG120404-NMS WSM10S, engineered for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. The insert features a TiAlN, Al2O3, and Al multilayer coating applied via PVD process, delivering elevated heat resistance and wear protection at the cutting edge. The diamond 80-degree insert shape (shape code C) provides a strong cutting geometry with a 0.4 mm corner radius and a negative rake angle of 18 degrees. With 4 usable cutting edges and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on difficult-to-machine materials. It is installed and indexed by licensed machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is designed primarily for machining stainless steel and superalloys including titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel (ISO material code P). The NMS chip breaker geometry supports stable chip control across these material groups. Typical applications include finish to semi-finish turning passes on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. The insert is held using a clamp and pin method, standard on CNMG-compatible toolholders. It is rated to material grades M1, S10, and P10.
Designed for use in CNMG-compatible toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert retention. Fits the CNMG-NMS series. Industry standard number CNMG431-NMS WSM10S. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations per ANSI and ISO tooling standards.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the toolholder to secure the insert; do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker pocket for debris before seating a new insert.
