The WALTER 7021251 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying ISO designation CPGT060204-MM4 WSM01. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN plus Al2O3 ZrN multilayer coating for heat resistance and edge durability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 7 degrees, a honed cutting edge, and a 0.4 mm corner radius. With two usable cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in precision metalworking environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel, non-ferrous metals, and hard materials. The MM4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for semi-finishing to finishing passes where controlled chip formation and surface quality are priorities. It is screw-held in standard CPGT-style toolholders and meets both ANSI and ISO standards. Material grade designations are M10, S10, P10, N10, and H20, covering a broad range of workpiece categories common in aerospace, medical, and general precision machining applications.
Designed for use in CPGT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 0.25 inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO CPGT standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw thread against the CPGT060204-MM4 insert specification before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination in the pocket will affect edge runout and surface finish. Dispose of worn inserts in accordance with local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
